Devblog 28/02/2024: Hello world!
Hey everyone! If you are reading this first of all thank you so so much for checking out Chimera! We have fallen in love with this wonderful project and we would love if you will join us along the journey of developing this game.
As of the release of this devblog, our game is currently in its alpha stages, and we are pushing for a beta for the 20th of March. To any of you who are thinking "Wow, what a short amount of time between the release of this itch page and this devblog and the beta release, this team must be amazing!" First of all, we are amazing and thank you for recognizing that. But more importantly, this is a student project (for now)! We are given a very small amount of time and we will do our best with that time to create something special. As a result, the scale of the beta release is only going to be a simple prologue. We hope you aren't underwhelmed by the size of the game, and maybe in a few years time, we can all look back and think about how this game went from a short prologue for a college project to an awesome full game! If you want to also see that future, please support Chimera!!!

Now, lets get into the meat and potatoes of this devblog shall we. As this is our first announcement of the project to the world, allow me to quickly introduce this game to you all.
In ‘Chimera’ you play as Oscar the husky, a lovable house pet. As you go about your usual routine, the world is rapidly changing: an unknown disease has swept through the land and is infecting all organic life! Creatures and humans alike are mutating in strange and dangerous ways. How can you survive this changed world and what will you discover at the end of it all?
Our USP (Unique Selling Point for anyone interested), is how the mutations and relationships with the NPCs of the world will affect the story and narrative of our game. We wanted to combine a number of different elements from CRPGs we have all fallen in love with, and we believe that our narrative, seen through the lens of Oscar, along with our gameplay will create a unique experience for anyone searching for a new RPG to sink their teeth into!

I guess the next big thing you might be wondering is who are we? Well, we are Critter Knitter Studios! We are a very small team of 4 people who have been working with each other interchangeably during our time at college and decided to all come together to create something amazing. We have one major programmer (that's me!) who is handling the large majority of the games programming and technical side. Then we have 3 artists! That might seem somewhat unbalanced, but with the vision we wanted to create for this game, we felt that the artist team would need to be much larger than the development team, and with some of our artists assisting with the technical side for some cases, we are confident in our skills and abilities.
And that's it! Well kind of. With this being the first devblog, we wanted to introduce ourselves and Chimera before we get into the actual development side of things. Now as a requirement for this course we are required to give you weekly devblogs! Don't worry, you wont have to just read multiple walls of text, as the team is hoping to start creating some devlogs on YouTube for you to watch and see the progress for yourself! As of right now, while we as a team all want to continue this game after graduating, we also understand that life can get in the way of that. So for now, please join us on our journey to create this prologue, and if the stars align, please continue to follow us on our journey to making this a full game! (If we do make this a full game I promise to do my best to update you all weekly or as close to weekly as I can get)
That is everything for now. For real this time! Have a great day, and give Oscar a little pet on your way. He deserves it.
